That's a good way to start a posting, don't you think? Definitely an attention grabber. Yep, there's not much left to the imagination with that title. Well maybe a little, such as the question "...and just what were you labelling?"
I recounted a story to my female entrepreneur support group tonight and thought it worthy of sharing with the group at large, to illustrate yet another example of my crazy foray into the world of a home-based business.
I LOVE being organized. I just got 250 lbs worth of paper in the form of my brand new Royal*T catalogues, order forms and price lists. So when they arrived in a terrible state - in boxes tattered and muddied from a long trip on the transporter from Edmonton- I knew that this investment could not be allowed to sit on the floor in such a state. I mean, it would just be bad karma, or feng shui or something.
So I lovingly created space on a wire rack thing I use for business stuff - on the wire shelves sits this great plastic drawer unit with the drawers full of things like crown stickers and business cards, a lint remover (essential for my business) and a tag gun.
The shelves were full of some other crap that have since found a home on the floor, but these catalogues, as expensive as they were and with as much hope stoked in their fibres as ink, had to have a place of honour.
I carefully unpacked and stacked them, admiring them and smiling to myself through it all. When I was finished I sighed a sigh of content and sat down on my office chair to admire my work.
The funny part of all of this is I still have a half-unpacked suitcase sitting on the floor from my Christmas holidays trip to Edmonton. I just can't be assed, as my Kiwi friend is fond of saying. I just have a difficulty making time for organization if it is not related to my business, it seems.
Anyway this is going somewhere, trust me.
I thought that buying a labelmaker would be a good thing. I could label all of those drawers, binders, file folders, and make my home generally a little more organized. Having a business and a home in a small loft apartment, one needs things like labelmakers to help.
I brought it home, loaded up the 4 AA batteries it needed, and proceeded to label the drawers and just about every single thing in the drawers, and then almost everything on the desk, and more. I almost labelled myself and stuck it on my forehead. If I still had Marty the cat, I would have labelled her.
I knew I was really far gone when I actually found myself (no joke, I woke up out of my labelling trance to literally find myself) sitting naked on my office chair, sticking a label that said "labelmaker" on, you guessed it, the labelmaker.
I carefully affixed the label, smiled at my handiwork, giggled at my insanity, and went to bed.
